Wet ride in La Jolla
I rode with 5 other cyclists from the San Diego Bike club on a very overcast and wet day. Due to the slippery conditions we shortened the scheduled 35 mile ride to 20 and kept the pace very slow.
I debated on not going but as always, I'm glad I rode.
Type: Easy ride
Distance: 20 miles
Location: La Jolla
Ride Time: 8:30AM PST

Online Map Strikes Again
For the 3rd time in 2 months, I've had an issue with some of the online mapping services. These sites, such as Mapquest and Google, have changed the way we get from point A to B but they aren't 100% reliable.
Case in point, I had mapped a 25 mile route for a training ride on my road bike. When I actually hit the road I discovered (after 15 minutes of confusion) that the road that appeared so nice on my Google map was actually a dirt road for a 5 mile stretch. Obviously, I couldn't navigate this type of terrain on my road bike so I had to turn around and back-track back home. 37 miles later and being totally exhausted, I made it back home. 37 miles is not that far especially on a road bike, however, I was riding with an agressive pace anticipating a 25 mile ride.
The same issue happened today on my run. I had mapped a nice 6 mile run but 40 minutes into the run I hit an unexpected dead-end. Frustrated I began walking and another 40 minutes later made it home.
The moral of the story; make sure you investigate a brand new route before taking off the first time. You might get more of a workout than you bargained for.
Run Type: Easy
Distance: Not sure? At least 6 miles
Time: 40 minutes running, 40 minutes walking
Run Time: 11:30AM PST
