Old Stompin' Grounds

I've been home (Lexington, KY) for the holidays for the last week and after spending a great deal of time around various dinner tables, I finally managed to get outside for a run. The weather today was unseasonably warm (mid 50s) and just a gorgeous day to run at my favorite location in Lexington. It's a narrow, hilly back-road that winds through some gorgeous horsefarms. I happen to be one of those people that enjoys running hills. I figure the more you can run hills, the easier race day is since most races look for "flat/fast" courses. The name of the road is Parker's Mill and if you ever find yourself in Lexington, I suggest you check it out. It is a narrow road so you do need to be alert.

So, with my iPod full of new music that I raided from my brother, I set out on a nice, relaxed run. It felt good to be running and even better to be running in my old Kentucky home.

I've got a 6:30AM flight back to San Diego tomorrow. It will be nice to get back home as my family has hit the wall after bouncing around from family and friend's homes. That's not so bad when it's just adults but try doing that with a 2 yr old. As anyone with young kids knows, the schedule is the KEY and any deviation from the schedule can have grave consequences.

Back in the Saddle Again

Long time no see. I've been out of action lately for no particular reason other than I just haven't made time to run. I know that my training for the Louisville mini doesn't officially begin until Jan 9th but I'm hoping to get back in the swing of things a little prior to that date.

It's been a great weekend as my UK Wildcats posted a dominating win over the Louisville Cardinals. Furthermore, my adopted NFL team (Chargers) upset the Colts today spoiling their bid for a perfect season. This loss might be the best thing that could happen to the Colts and I wouldn't be surprised to see them win the big one this year.

It's been an unusally quiet weekend as my wife and 2yr old have returned to Kentucky for Christmas. It's been awhile since I've been without them and it seemed very strange and far too quiet in the house. I've made the adjustment though and have indulged myself by sleeping late, watching whatever I want on TV and eating at my favorite fast food restaurants.

I started listening to a new Podcast today. It's from a runner and I have posted the link in the margin. The guy is a bit older than me but someone that I can relate to as he is a middle of the pack runner that just enjoys getting out for a run. He usually does his podcasts while he is doing his long run and it's fairly entertaining. His website is Steverunner.com. Check it out.
